Understanding Texas Hold em
The following are the steps in a game of Texas Hold’em Poker.
Posting: The dealer, the player to one spot left of him and the player to 2 spots left of him place a few mandatory bets that are the minimum limits in the game that determine the rest of the bets.
Hole Cards: Also known as pocket cards, these are 2 cards that are dealt to you initially without being revealed from a fresh stack of 52 cards that have been shuffled.
Preflop: before the game begins you can bet some amount based on the cards that you received. You can call, fold or raise the bet.
After the top card of the deck (the bum card) is discarded the actual game begins. The dealer places 3 cards open to all players and the betting of another round continues.
After this, another card (the turn) is dealt concluding with another betting round.
This is followed by a card, the river, again succeeded by a final round of betting.
After the end of the game are allowed to reveal the 2 cards making a best combination with 3 of the communal cards spread.
Your role is to make the best possible combination of 5 cards to form the best hand among the opponents in the showdown. There are several rules for what the best hand is depending on the cards.
In many cases there are 2 or more people who have equally good hands, so the pot is split between them.
